Forestry (foaled 1996 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He was sired by Storm Cat out of the mare Shared Interest, by Pleasant Colony.
Of his 11 starts, Forestry was very consistent as a three-year-old; in the money 10 times.
Ridden by Chris Antley, his win in the King's Bishop Stakes set a new stakes record of 1:21 flat, shattering the old record that had stood for 28 years and beating graded stakes race winners Yes Its True and Vicar at the same time.
His win in the Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park equaled the record time set by Holy Bull.
Since 2000, Forestry has been standing at stud at the Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Kentucky. His 2007 fee was $125,000. Among his progeny are graded stakes race winners Discreet Cat, Diplomat Lady, Smokey Glacken, Old Forester, Forest Danger, and Woodlander. Of his successful progeny is the 2011 Preakness Stakes winner, Shackleford, a beautiful chestnut colt of three wins in eight starts, and a single place of over $1.3 million.
At the Fasig-Tipton Florida auction in February 2006, Coolmore Stud paid a world record auction price of $16 million for a Florida-bred two-year-old colt in training, by Forestry out of Magical Masquerade by Unbridled. This colt has since been named The Green Monkey.
